A Board of Trustees member, Peoples Democratic Party, Prof. Tunde Adeniran, has proffered a political solution to the lingering leadership crisis afflicting the erstwhile ruling party.
A statement by Adeniran, who is a former Minister of Education, said on Tuesday that this was the time for all the warring factions within the party to bury the hatchet.
He said the Court of Appeal verdict that nullified the decision of the national convention of the PDP on May 21, 2016 and reinstated the Modu Sheriff was a challenge to all the lovers of democracy nationwide to rally round the party.
Adeniran said, “Some of the reactions that have followed the 17 February 2017 Port Harcourt Court of Appeal verdict in CA/PH/349/2016 Sheriff and Ors. Vs. PDP and Ors call for a rethinking and reawakening among the lovers of democracy, the rule of law and good governance in our dear country, Nigeria.
“A political solution remains the best option and our founding fathers and all critical stakeholders must resume action in this regard not just for the sake of justice, fair play and stability within the PDP but for the survival of democracy in Nigeria.
“Now, more than ever before, we should all be concerned about democracy and our dear country. Nobody should be under any illusion that the ruling All Progressives Congress will ever change from its mission of dictatorship through deliberate and carefully calculated violations of human rights, the rule of law and democratic processes.”
He said that the future of democracy depended on unity within the PDP, adding that it was high time members of the party stopped fanning the flames of acrimony.
