The third phase field work for Enumeration Area Demarcation, preparatory to the 2018 population census has commenced in Yobe.
The Federal Commissioner, National Population Commission, Alhaji Muhammadu Makkau, stated this at the launching of the demarcation exercise on Thursday in Nguru.
Makkau said the demarcation was a key component of the 2018 Population and Housing Census.
According to the commissioner “the enumeration area demarcation is the vehicle that drives the pre-census, actual enumeration and post-census era.”
Makkau explained that the fieldwork would not influence the final result of the 2018 census.
He appealed for support and cooperation from the host community and the state government.
Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam, assured the commission of government’s assistance to ensure a successful exercise in the state.
Gaidam, represented by Alhaji Dawa Maigari, Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, directed the local government authority and community leaders to support the programme.
“We should collectively rally round the National Population Commission to ensure that the third phase of the field work in Nguru Local Government Area records a huge success,” Gaidam said.
