The Jigawa State House of Assembly has announced the appointment of Hon. Ado Idris Andaza (PDP-Kiyawa Constituency) as its new Minority Chief Whip.
The Deputy Speaker of the house, Alhaji Ahmed Garba, confirmed this to newsmen on Thursday in Dutse.
Garba said that the appointment followed the defection of former minority chief whip, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulaiman Gwiwa from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He explained that the decision was taken after the house had received a letter signed by the PDP Secretary in the state, Alhaji Isa Bello, requesting the house to replace Alhaji Gwiwa with Alhaji Andaza.
“So, Alhaji Andaza is now the new minority chief whip. He has already occupied the office today, in fact he attended our in-house meeting today,’’ he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that two out of the five PDP members in the Jigawa House of Assembly, had on Feb. 9, defected to the ruling party.
The members are Alhaji Ibrahim Sulaiman Gwiwa, representing Gwiwa constituency and Alhaji Shuaibu Inuwa Fagam, representing Fagam constituency.
