The Rivers State Police Command said on Friday that no fewer than 3,500 of its officers and men had been deployed in Etche and Omuma for the conclusion of Saturday’s (today) legislative rerun election in the state.
State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni, said that the command was fully prepared to ensure a hitch-free exercise, adding that most of the police personnel deployed in the area were mobile policemen.
He reminded members of the public in Etche and Omuma local government areas that the restriction of movement in the areas from 12 midnight on Friday till 4pm on Saturday was still in force.
The state government, through the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Dr. Emmanuel Urang, announced the cancellation of the monthly sanitation to pave the way for easy movement of electoral officers and others, whose services would be needed during the election.
However, in Etche, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, said they had begun the handover of election materials to presiding officers, adding that they were expecting a smooth conduct of the election.
