After days in detention, 18 undergraduates of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Imo State, have been released by the Imo State Police Command.
The undergraduates were arrested and detained by the state police command following a protest last Friday by students of the institution, in which several buildings and property in the university were destroyed.
The FUTO students had staged a protest on the campus over alleged increments in their tuitions, course registration fees, transport fees, hostel fees, Internet fees and others.
Confirming the release of the students, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Andrew Enwerem, said the arrested students were freed following pleas by their parents and guardians.
