SURCON inducts 345 new surveyors

The Surveyors Council of Nigeria has admitted 345 individuals into the surveying profession.

Speaking at the induction ceremony that was held in Abuja, the Surveyor-General of the Federation, Mr. Ebisintei Awudu, advised the new members to display professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

He stated that the inductees were registered after they satisfied the requirements of SURCON in the 2016 professional examinations, adding that they were declared as qualified surveyors in accordance with Section 9(3) of Cap S18, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

Awudu charged the 345 new surveyors to remain faithful to the practice of the profession and perform their duties honestly as stipulated by the laid down rules and regulations governing the practice.

“You must strive to protect the integrity, solidarity, well-being and prosperity of SURCON and the profession of surveying at all times,”  he said.

The surveyor-general, however, made it clear to the new members that the profession was not immune to hazards, as he cited an instance where about five surveyors were killed during the course of duty.

In his address, the Permanent Secretary of the works arm of the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Abubakar Mogaji, urged the new surveyors to look for ways by which they could contribute to the development of Nigeria.

“Your registration and induction into this noble profession provides you an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the development of our great country, Nigeria. So, look for better ways to contribute meaningfully to nation building,” he said.
